If you are involved professionally in adventurous activities with young people (under 18) then by law you're required to hold an AALS (Adventurous Activities Licensing Service) Licence. As part of the licence requirements you need access to highly qualified technical advice, either from your own staff or outsourced. I'm able to act as 'technical advisor' for organisations AALS licence and currently work with Northumberland County Council, Harmeny Education, Paddle 2 Climb and Skill Force (Newcastle). Skill Force provide alternative education in and out of the classroom and offer outdoor activities as part of their service. As part of their commitment to quality I spent a day with nine of their staff at Causey Quarry on Tyneside looking at climbing and orienteering at that venue.
