The Matterhorn

Richard on Via FerrataMatterhorn from Zermatt

Richard and I spent the night at the renowned Hornli Hutte on the flanks of the world's most recognisable mountain, the Matterhorn. Sadly, the weather was against us and a cold front passing in the night rendered the route unclimbable. A sobering finale to our trip was a helicopter quartering the east face in the morning looking for 5 lost climbers who had failed to return the previous day. There is a great via ferrata in the Zermatt Gorge so all was not lost for us and we salvaged our day on that.
