Mitteleggi Ridge, Eiger

Images from one of the most talked about peaks in the Alps, the Eiger. Matt and I traversed it from the Mitteleggi Hut, ascending the NE (Mitteleggi) Ridge and descending the South (and traversing the Eigerjochs to the Monchjoch Hut). We found the ridge in snowy condition as it had stormed throughout the night but after a tentative start in snow flurries we pressed on and completed the route in good time. The ridge is graded D (and AD for the descent) but is tricky to grade as it's festooned with fixed ropes. The rock sections are the crux at around IV (with ropes?) but you need to have a steady head for the snow arete at the top!

Jeff:

I had been waiting for this one. I'm very happy to see you were succesful without injury. Its the first time I've seen pictures of the Mitteleggi Ridge with so much snow. Congratulations. A good writeup I found about the fist ascent of the Mitteleggi on Summitpost.
