Everest BC & Gokyo

Tim getting broody with a local

This October I had the pleasure of guiding in the Nepalese Himalaya. This was my third time in the country and second in the Khumbu Valley. The Khumbu is famous for the Sherpa people, originally descendants of Tibetan nomads. They are probably the most welcoming and hard working people I have met and I always enjoy their hospitality and humour.

Sherpas are famous for their Buddhist faith but Nepal is home to all religions which somehow manage to co exist with each other.

I also managed to visit the famous monastary in Tengboche. I'd been before as one of my Sherpa friends brother (a Sherpa family will often encourage their second born son into the monastary) lives there. This time I got to ski with the young novices on make shift skis and witness the painstaking labour of the elders creating Buddhist Iconographical art.

I guess what Nepal is really famous for is those big peaks. If your going to go make sure it's in the autumn, the air quality is crystal clear.

The reason I keep returning is the locals who make me laugh, and the Nepal speciality Dhal Bhat! (Try eating it three times a day for a week).

would you mess with these two?
