Sunday 7th March was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of our movie stars of 2009. The 82nd Academy Awards took place in Hollywood and there was definitely a lot of excitement and tension on the red carpet. The main achievement of the night was the award for 'Best Picture' given to the surprised Kathryn Bigelow for her movie The Hurt Locker. She quotes; "This was really, truly, honestly never part of anything we even imagined in our wildest dreams."

Other winners of the night included Sandra Bullock, the actress in leading role in The Blind Side. Also the actor in leading role went to the fantastic Jeff Bridges from his role in Crazy Heart. Up took away the best-animated feature film while Avatar gained the best art direction, the best visual effects and the best cinematography.

As anyone would be, many of the nominees for the various awards were disappointed they didn't gain an award tonight but many of them will come back fighting next year.
