BBC School Report 2009

We have decided to be a delivery partner again this year especially after winning an award last year at the first attempt for the best new comer website.
This year we want to do better and we want more people involved. The BBC have sent out a letter to Secondary Head Teachers asking if they want to be involved. We would like all schools to be involved. The age category is Key Stage 3 and it can be any department within the school not ICT.
We will have practice days at the CLC where we will show students how to report stories but we will put a time limit on this and the students will be under great pressure to get the story complete and published as they would be in the rel world. The practice days are as follows:
13th November 2008
11th December 2008
15th January 2009
12th February 2009
WIth the School Report day on 26th March 2009

This year we hope to get all schools attending and contributing to the day even if they are not in the CLC on the day. We will hope to have reports outside the CLC bringing back location reports. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to show what they can do under pressure. Make sure the school has received the letter, look at the BBC website www.bbc.co.uk/schoolreport also look at our website www.ictgateshead.org/schoolreport and hopefully this will inspire you to get involved. Contact us if you need mare information but get it soon to get the most out of this great experience.

Preparation for Unit 8.5

The successful implementation of unit 8.5 is a key development in the attainment of level 5 for pupils in year 9. It is important that every opportunity is given at this stage to develop the pupil痴 independence and understanding so that they can achieve to the best of their ability.

This will only come about through careful and rigorous planning by all staff involved in the delivery of the unit. With this in mind I am inviting all ICT staff who are involved in the teaching of Unit 8.5 to a series of support sessions where they can explore the delivery of the unit, identify and develop the opportunities that the lesson plans highlight and build the resources that will make this a successful transition to the project based work of year 9.
The first meeting will be at Dryden on the 11th March at 4.00. This session will deal with the first two lessons of the unit. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to call me. If you are able to attend could you please inform Sonia Bell in the Keystage 3 office.
