4Mation Audio Resources

grannygarden.JPGFor those of you old enough to remember Granny's Garden and Flowers of Crystal we have a real treat. 4Mation have placed the audio stories from these games on their site as Mp3 files Trevor Carter helped them out as they had to take the audio from a reel to reel which he happened to have so he converted the audio for present day audiences.
We would like to use these stories and integrate them with the technology of today you can book a session at the Gateshead CLC where we can use the soundtracks with applications such as Photo-story using pupils drawings or animations using Digi-blues or 2animate. We will showcase pupils work on the website. If you are interested in using the CLC to create the stories then contact us to book a session. If you want to take part in this in the school then simply go to the 4Mation website and download the podcasts

Modelling Keystage 2

Thanks to Peter Bolger who emailed me this link. It is great for modelling a classroom layout and there are lots of opportunities for pupils to explain why they have designed their classroom in the way they have.
Check out the tools at the bottom of the screen as well there are a couple of little gems here.

Modelling Year 1

I have been asked by a teacher if I can think of anything that will help deliver Unit 1A Introduction to Modelling. In the past My World was what everyone used for this unit especially as there was a direct reference to dressing a teddy.

Anyway why not look at 2simple software. This software takes really complex ideas and makes them "simple" the modelling bit is http://www.2simple.com/modelling/#

There is also Sherston who are always in touch with teacher and learner needs their website shows the modelling Kit from SEMERC. http://shop.sherston.

R-E-M also have My world 3 http://www.r-e-m.co.uk/rem/xrem.php?T=8384

There is also www.poissonrouge.com which has many different activities and is good for whiteboard use.

Lets get the idea of the comments facility working on this site, tell us about the software you have and how you use it by using the comments box attached to this post.
c'mon share what you do with others!

Internet Safety

The CyberCafe is an integral part of the Internet Proficiency Scheme developed to help teachers educate children on staying safe on the Internet. The scheme has been developed by Becta, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and aims to develop a set of safe and discriminating behaviours for pupils to adopt when using the Internet and other technologies.

Click here to access the site

The NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational safety resource that teaches kids and teens how to stay safer on the Internet. NetSmartz combines the newest technologies available and the most current information to create high-impact educational activities that are well received by even the most tech-savvy kids. Parents, guardians, educators, and law enforcement also have access to additional resources for learning and teaching about the dangers children may face online. NetSmartz was created by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA).

Click here to access the site. If you click Teens and scroll down to Tracking Teresa - this flash program explains the need to educate both Pupils and Parents about the Internet.

Classification Activities - Furbles

Furbles is an interactive probability and statistics application. It generates populations of creatures with various attributes, like the one below. They can self-organise into statistical representations of themselves. A 'Furble Lottery' function allows one furble to be selected at random from among the population.
furble.png
The application is designed for use with Key Stages 2 and 3. but could be tailored for use with Year 1 and 2. It is currently in the early stages of development. Further applications using the Furbles idea are intended in the near future.

Classic Reader - KS2

Classic Reader gives access to text from children's books. Select the ‘Children’ option to find 120 entries.

It is relevant to the following areas:
QCA ICT Scheme of Work:
Unit 4A – Writing for different audiences

Example
A Year 4 teacher took an extract from 'Heidi' by Johanna Spyri and discussed with the children how it would need to be changed if the genders of Heidi and her grandfather were reversed – if the child became a boy (Harry) visiting his grandmother. She demonstrated how 'find and replace' could be used to change 'she' to 'he'. Children then worked on the text using find and replace and manual changes until they were satisfied with the revised version.
