We had our two meetings this week and they were both very well attended, both CLC's managed to delight our palettes at least with wonderful food!
Heworth CLC
Peter Haywood introduced us to the new Primary Booklet which will be going into schools and outlined the new things Heworth would be offering. Next Year they will offer activities for the EYFS and these sessions will be delivered by Many Martin from Bill Quay School.
He also gave us a sneak preview of the new look Heworth CLC website which will go live later in the Summer ready for the September Start. Remember that you need to contact Heworth CLC and book your sessions and that certain people are only available on certain days. Peter gave out grid showing what activities take place on each day. So Book Early
Gateshead CLC
Mike introduced us to the Gateshead Primary offering stressing that the role of the CLC is to Innovate Change and Embed technology in teaching and Learning and the courses they are offering reflect that. Gateshead CLC are holding WOW Awards on the theme of Changes. School will sign up for a skills session using multi media technology and then they will create their masterpieces and external judges will decide who are the winners. The ceremony will be a black tie limo and posh frock affair so don't forget to enter, there will be fantastic technology to win as well.
We reminded people of the way to book travel for sessions at the CLC's Heworth by booking the coach company and invoicing the CLC, Gateshead by contacting the CLC and requesting a session, they will book the transport.
LA overview
Moira Thompson detailed the main targets for the LA which are:
Self Review Framework
Expectation that all schools begin the evaluation online. Although a rigorous challenge, one which schools would welcome especially when preparing for OfSTED.
Websites
Looking at the way we access information on the web is changing and how we will need to change to meet the demands of our young people. From Informational Web to Conversational Web.
e-Safety
Moira pointed out the importance of keeping our young people safe on the Internet and in using technology. Peter Heywood and Mike Carter have both been on training courses to deliver training to pupils in schools. Mike has been on a further course and is now an Ambassador for e-Safety which allows him to train other professionals to deliver the Think You Know Training from CEOP (Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre).
Learning Platform
Moira outlined again the Government target for all schools to have a Learning Platform. If your school has not started the training then contact Gateshead CLC and book in some sessions.
Moira showed a video of the work that is done in ICT across the Authority to promote the use of ICT and to highlight the fact that our young people access technology outside the school gate in ways we may not know or even understand.
At both meetings we welcomed teachers who are new to the role of ICT Coordinator and we hope we made you feel at ease and that you are part of a network of professionals who will help each other to do the job well.
Again thank you to all that attended the meetings for your time and enthusiasm we look forward to supporting you all through this year and of course from September.
If we have missed anything of vital importance please use the comments facility to bring it to our attention.
