Firstly thank you to all colleagues who came to the meetings at Heworth and Gateshead this week especially the Gateshead meeting as the weather was foul.
Heworth CLC - Peter informed everyone of the facilities on offer including several competitions which are being held for which there would be prises on offer to winners and runners up. He reminded colleagues that the pupils can enjoy Litereacy through Harry Potter and Blue Screen technology. They can also enjoy the delights of manipulating images in Photo shop and playing Games (with an educational bias of course ranging from literacy , history and Science) Peter pointed out that there were days left for booking but that really Key Stage 2 was the focus because of suitably qualified EYFS and Key Stage 1 Staff. But he did emphasis he would do his best to help colleagues.
Pupils can also make some music with Johnny Starr and the Garage Band software an activity enjoyed by many schools so far. Aslo the pupils have the chance to learn about Control Technology and Data Logging
He reminded people that at Heworth CLC schools paid for transport and then clained it back to the value of £80.00. Gateshead CLC organise the bus when a booking is received.
Mike explained his trip to BETT and showed the Asus minibook which is onsale for £199.00 it will access the internet has a webcam and three USB sockets and an SD card slot. One step further to access for all. He observed that many companies at BETT seemed more interested in Profit Margin than pupil learning and asked colleagues to stand up and shout about the good work they were doing in schools. If you want to do this then contact Mike he will make sure the work is celebrated and recognised.
Mike again stressed the importance of using the ICT gateshead site particularlly ICT Works as a means of communication and of sharing good practice by using the comments facilities. This is a great way to have problems solved and ideas shared ina collaborative way.
Mike mentioned that he was working on some Geographical Infomation Service modules to host at the Gateshead CLC and said he would make them available as soon as he had tested them. He aske for ideas for themes for Gateshead CLC to offer to Schools to dat he has received an idea to host a Lowry theme using Video and Radio " I think this has great potential so I will be looking to develop this as an offering to schools" Gateshead CLC also offers Cad Cam design and Control technology alsongside 3D printing and design. We offer foundation Stage experiences with BEE BOTS both on the floor and on the screen as well as Themed days which allow the staff to dress up. If you have not tried one of these days you don't know what you are missing (related to the curriculum of course).
The main points of information as from the LA were centred around four key initiatives.
1. The Learning Platform (LP) all schools have access to a LP they merely need to let Moira know when they wish to start implementation and the curriculum ICT team will work with the school creating the platform, logins and training to suit the school.
2. The Self Review framework - Moira would like all schools to embark on this as a means of embedding ICT into the curriculum.
3. The ICT Framework - this will allow teachers more freedom to follow a creative curriculum using ICT across all subjects as well as within the ICT discipline
4. Safeguarding Children agenda - the idea of making sure that e-safety is top of the agenda for schools making sure our children are safe.
We hope we have encapsulated the spirit of the meeting both as a reminder for those who were there and also for information for those unable to attend and thank you to those who sent apologies.
Remember that schools have an CLC entitlement
Heworth CLC 2 days (one form entry) upto 4 days (two form entry).
Gateshead CLC 5 days (10 half days) EYFS to year 6

Hi
Thanks for the meeting notes. I couldn't make either meeting due to things on at my son's school on both evenings.
