We know that ICT can enhance the learning experience of pupils and when we control and direct the learning it has incredible potential. I have re uploaded a PowerPoint presentation which combines visual and aural stimulus which can be useful in supporting pupils in their writing. This was produced by the Literacy Strategy as part of resources for schools.

I used this idea during a recent OfSTED inspection. I wanted to demonstrate how redrafting would improve a piece of writing. But instead of just presenting the writing in a bland form, I used PowerPoint, recorded the writing as narration, then added appropriate images and sound effects. The resulting slides really set the theme of the lesson and engaged the children.

If you want to have a go at making your own Powerpoints with sound, have a look at a new article in KS1/2 Literacy on the Gateshead Grid. The article is called 'Using visual and audio assets in Literacy' and gives you a how to guide and few resources to use.
