The Poetry Society is a membership-based and Arts Council England-funded registered charity, whose stated aims are to promote the study, use and enjoyment of poetry. It was founded in 1909 and is due to celebrate its centenary in 2009.
Many professional poets are members of the Society, although not all. Our membership is open to anyone. Many of our thousands of members around the world are teachers, librarians, booksellers, journalists - a wide range, in fact, of readers, writers and lovers of poetry.
