 | SoundBeam SoundBeam is a fun and creative introduction to digital music-making and performance for non-musicians. It is particularly useful for young children. SoundBeam converts physical movement into sound. Working in groups children will create their own soundscapes through physical movement and expression. These can then be re-purposed for use in PhotoStory, PowerPoint and web presentations or converted to podcasts for broadcast on the school website or CLC web radio.

Computer Control
Year 5 pupils using Junior Control Insight 2 software will model systems to solve simple problems. The computer simulations of the systems are then enhanced by using the control boxes which enable the children to manipulate the operation of a variety of "real" components, for example, simulating the sequence of lights at a Pelican crossing (1-2 sessions).
Year 6 pupils are invited to design and make a card model of a simple fairground ride, whilst at the same time further developing their skills using Junior Control Insight. In a later session the children bring their fairground models into the CLC and develop their models into working prototypes using the control boxes. This would involve 2-3 sessions in school, 1 in the CLC and a final optional session in school to develop a presentation about the experience. |

Year 6 pupils can enjoy working with ProDESKTOP CAD software currently used throughout the Secondary sector. This enables them to generate complex three dimensional objects quite simply. These images are then rendered using the software and printed to make a colourful display. Their "virtual" designs are then manufactured using the rapid prototyping machine at the CLC. Projects include "boat", "robot" and "shelter" designs, (2-3 sessions)Year 5 and 6 pupils can work with Techsoft-Primary Design CAD software, specially designed for younger children. Easy to use 2-D drawing software allows pupils to develop beautiful coloured images as well as to design simple products which are manufactured from Acrylic at the CLC using the laser cutter. Examples include mobile phone stands, key-ring fobs, phone charms, pen holders...(1-2 sessions) |
